Is it low Testosterone, or do you need to inner work?
So many men in my practice come to see me because they assume they have low testosterone simply because they’re not interested in sex.
I go through the usual western medicine workup. Occasionally I’ll diagnose someone with low T; however, more often then not these men will have normal hormonal levels.
When we discuss their results they’re usually confused because they just assume this is their problem.
“Well Doc, then why don’t I have a sex drive anymore?”
They usually stare open mouthed at me as I describe to them the complex and multifaceted basis for their sex drive.
A sex drive is not always directly correlated with a number. It’s a complex dynamic and reflection of your internal state and external environment.
I then begin to ask my patients-
What’s your relationship like with your partner?
When was the last time y’all went on a date?
How do you feel about your career?
Do you feel aligned in your life?
How do you feel about your life in general?
What do you do for fun and pleasure?
These questions are not easy to answer, just as a man’s (or woman’s) sex drive can’t be broken down to a singular number.
When we start to explore the answers to these deeper questions and do the work to shift through junk, it’s amazing what a true sex drive can feel like.
